UGA STUDENTS MAKE AN IMPACT

Many college and university students spend spring break tanning in warmer climates, snow skiing in cooler ones, or traveling to exciting locations across the globe. But each year, thousands of students travel to out-of-the-way destinations for a different reason: to make an impact and to serve others.

Students from the University of Georgia (UGA) have been traveling to St. Louis for the past ten years to serve those living with HIV and AIDS and to learn about the public health impact of AIDS service organizations and the populations they serve. For the seventh straight year, Union Avenue is pleased to host students from UGA as they serve our community.

IMPACT Service Breaks engage UGA students in affordable, week-long, substance-free, experiential service-learning projects. This spring break, from March 5 – 13, nearly 400 students will visit 20 cities where they will carry out projects covering a wide range of topics, including urban environmental awareness, Native American cultural awareness and advocacy, children's advocacy, and homelessness and poverty awareness and advocacy programming. Twenty of those students have settled into the Urban Mission Inn to make a difference serving those living with HIV and AIDS.

This year, the Urban Mission Inn also will host student groups from The University of Michigan, the University of Iowa, and the University of Colorado.
