Helping people find community and discover the promise of God's eternal love is what Union Avenue Christian Church is called to be. Collectively and individually the members of Union Avenue are stewards of this legacy and of the gifts that God has granted us. What we do with these gifts ultimately defines the character of our life and the depth of our spiritual understanding.
Reaching out into our neighborhood … community …
world to serve God
Our outreach ministries at Union Avenue Christian Church follow Christ’s example of reaching out into the world to share, to heal, to offer hope and compassion, and to change lives. As a community of care, we share the compelling belief that every person is valuable and was created with unique abilities and purpose. It is our desire to nurture those abilities and plant seeds of promise and possibility that are both local and global in scope. We embrace the vision of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) to be a faithful, growing church that demonstrates true community, deep Christian spirituality and a passion for justice.
A congregation’s gifts to the larger community are found in its calling to work for restorative justice for all peoples, its stewardship of resources, and its structured programs of outreach to the world outside its doors. These gifts also are honed in the informal relationships and ordinary, day-to-day acts of kindness, compassion and fellowship among its members. All of this has taught us that our life together as community enriches our lives apart.
Our vision today and as we move into the future is to be a faith community growing in the treasures of justice, stewardship, artistic expression and hospitality. We invite you to join us as we strive to serve and worship God … to embrace and learn from God’s word … to celebrate what is good and beautiful … to seek justice … and to demonstrate Christ’s love in our daily lives.

As an integral part of our outreach to our community, we have developed a list of resources for anyone needing help. If you are experiencing a crisis or supporting a loved one who is, if you need answers to questions about mental health or living with HIV/AIDS, if you are living in a relationship where violence exists, if you are a teen who needs support or a place to sleep, please don’t wait … call for help. No matter what you are experiencing, there is support for getting your life back on track. Click here for a list of support services.
The Urban Mission Inn is a program that has provided more than 50,000 volunteer hours to our local community over the course of the past 15 years; housing mission groups, and helping plan hands-on mission opportunities in the city for many youth, young-adult, and intergenerational groups over years! The development of the program reflects a commitment to mission, to helping to provide cross-cultural experiences for youth and adults, nurturing spiritual transformation, and building connections with service and advocacy organizations throughout the city.
