WELCOME TO ADVENT

WELCOME to the season of Advent — a celebration of hope as we prepare our hearts and minds for the miracle of God’s Love come to us. This year’s holiday devotional combines the extraordinary art from the 2019 Who Is God? Light of the World exhibit, which donned the Gretchen Brigham Gallery the past two months, with insightful reflections from our friends at Union Avenue Christian Church. 

As the Faith Formation and the Arts Group of Union Avenue (AGUA) Ministry Teams began thinking together on how we could highlight the beautiful pieces of art with an Advent devotional, we pondered how we would handle 36 different pieces of art that were part of the exhibit with only 25 calendar days from the first Sunday of Advent (December 1, 2019) through Christmas. 

As serendipity would have it, there are 36 days from the first Sunday of Advent through Epiphany this year! So for the first time, our congregation will have the opportunity to use a daily devotional that will carry them from the first day of Advent through Epiphany on January 6, 2020. The online devotional document (in daily sequential order) is here.

We are grateful that each artist has allowed us to reproduce digital photos of their art for this special project. Members and friends in our congregation selected pieces of art that touched them in a special way, and then created personal reflections that connect to the sacred time of Advent and Christmas.

We hope this year’s devotional creates some sacred time for you to reflect on God as the light of the world, and may you find hope, peace, joy and love throughout the season.
