OF EPIPHANIES AND INSTALLATIONS

Our Christian celebration of the Epiphany has traditionally focused on the story of the Magi following the Natal Star, bringing their gifts, and finding their world changed. It also recalls the charge of the prophet Isaiah to the people:

“Arise, shine; for your light has come,
    and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
For darkness shall cover the earth,
    and thick darkness the peoples;
but the Lord will arise upon you,
    and his glory will appear over you.
Nations shall come to your light,
    and kings to the brightness of your dawn.”
(Isaiah 60:1-3 NRSV)

Epiphany is that time in the life of the Church to acknowledge our holy calling to make manifest the Light of God in the world.

On Saturday, January 6, 2018, at 2 p.m., Union Avenue Christian Church will host a special celebration of God’s call upon our lives and ministry. This Epiphany will see our congregation open its hearts and minds and doors to a feast of the Spirit as we officially install our new Senior Minister, the Rev. Michael Riggs, and inaugurate our shared ministry together. We will be joined by our fellow Disciples and representatives from the ecumenical community as we hear once again the charge to be God’s Light. We especially welcome the Rev. Virzola Law, Senior Minister of the historic Lindenwood Christian Church in Memphis, Tennessee, as the guest preacher and look forward to the powerful word she will bring.

Please make plans to be a part of this special service and reception marking a milestone in the life of our congregation. However, an installation service is more than just a milestone – it’s a stepping stone for us to affirm once again our call to be Church together, to give thanks to God for the gift of ministry we share, and to embark once again upon the journey of discipleship. As we begin to pen a new chapter in our history, may we shine the Light and bring about an epiphany of True Love to the world.
